Where's the Gold Pokies
What Is Where's the Gold?
The Where's the Gold pokie machine is an Aristocrat classic built around a gold rush: a prospector, mine shafts, wagons and sticks of dynamite. It started life as a land-based machine of the kind found in Australian pubs, clubs and casinos, which is why so many locals know the name, and was later licensed for online play. In 2013, Aristocrat named it among the first eight titles in a deal to supply regulated European online markets. See our Aristocrat Pokies page for the studio's other games.
Overseas sites often call it the Where's the Gold slot machine, and the version on a club floor today may differ from the online one in bet options, returns and features. We couldn't open the online demo on our check date, so the table below separates what we confirmed from what other sites claim.
| Parameter | What we found |
| Developer | Aristocrat |
| Reels and paylines | 5 reels, 25 paylines in every source we checked; not verified in a paytable |
| Bet range | Not verified: other sites give conflicting figures |
| RTP | Not shown to us: other sites give different figures |
| Volatility | Not verified |
| Bonus | Free games with a pick feature, according to every source we checked |
| Jackpot | Not verified: other sites contradict each other |
| Online demo | Unavailable on 2 November 2026 |
| Real-money play | Not found in the casino lobbies we searched |
How the Free Games Feature Works
We couldn't open the paytable ourselves, so this section describes the feature as other sites report it, and flags where they disagree. Most of the reviews we read describe the same sequence:
- Three or more dynamite scatters anywhere on the reels trigger the feature. One older review says wilds trigger it instead.
- A second screen shows a group of characters, and you pick one.

- Your pick reveals gold nuggets, and the nuggets set how many free games you get.
- During the free games, some of the picture symbols turn gold and act as extra wilds or pay more.
The details are where sources split. One review says the feature always pays 10 free games, another gives 10 in one place and 20 in another, and others say the count depends on your pick. They also name different characters and different symbols that turn gold. Until you can see the paytable yourself, treat any single number as unconfirmed. Our Free Spins guide explains how free spins features work in general.
Please notice that scatters and wilds work differently. A scatter counts wherever it lands, not just on a payline, while a wild stands in for other symbols on a line. If dynamite is the scatter, as most reviews say, the number of lines you play changes the cost of a spin, not how often the feature lands.
Our Where's the Gold Demo Test: What We Could Check
We planned a demo session for this page: a set number of spins at a fixed bet, a count of how often the free games landed and screenshots of the paytable and info panel. On 2 November 2026, the demo didn't load. Instead, the demo page on SlotsLaunch and a few other websites said the demo version was currently unavailable.

So we have no spin count, no bonus results and no screenshot of the game itself, and we won't invent them. If you find a working copy, five minutes with the paytable answers most questions:
- which symbol triggers the free games and how many you need;
- how many free games the pick can award;
- which symbols turn gold or wild during the feature;
- the line count, bet range and RTP in the info panel;
- the developer name in the game information.
Keep in mind that demo results aren't a forecast. A run of bonuses in demo mode says nothing about what happens with real money.
Where's the Gold Free Pokies: Where to Play the Demo
On our check date, we couldn't find a working demo. The SlotsLaunch demo page says the demo version is currently unavailable, and Slotozilla's page shows the same. A few other review pages still show a play button, but we couldn't load the game on any of them.
Searches for free online pokies Where's the Gold also turn up copycat pages with near-identical text and no playable game. Older reviews describe the online version as running in a browser with no download or registration, so skip any page that asks you to install a file or sign up just to try the demo.
When a demo does come back, a mobile browser should be enough. Our Mobile Casino guide covers how browser play works on phones.
Can You Play Where's the Gold Online for Real Money?
Aristocrat did license the game for online play: its 2013 announcement named the game among its first titles for regulated European markets, and some directories of Aristocrat online games still list it. Whether a casino carries it today is another matter. On 2 November 2026, we searched the game lobbies of several online casinos where we have accounts, and none of them had it: the search simply came back empty.

If you come across Where's the Gold online pokies in a casino lobby, open the game information before you play and check that Aristocrat is named as the developer. Unofficial copies of well-known land-based pokies do circulate, and a game without a named developer gives you no way to check its returns or rules.

Playing Where's the Gold Responsibly
Every spin is independent: a long run without the feature doesn't make it due. Playing more lines changes how much each spin costs and how many lines are covered, not your chance of triggering the free games, and no betting pattern improves the long-term return.
